December 18, 2007 Hello- As I suppose you all know, the submission deadline for issue2 passed on Saturday. A few people submitted, but I want to encourage a few more to do so. So, please note the second deadline for issue2 is now January 1. Whatever I have by the new year is what I'll go with, so help me make it the best it can be. Thanks ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- December 5, 2007 Hi everyone! I have some exciting news to share today. I received an email this afternoon from a represenative of the International Fest of Cinema and Technology. This is a film festival that tours 10 cities in 6 countries around the world. This weekend they are holding the festival here in Jacksonville (and in London!). They've taken notice of our little weblication, and apparently found it "very innovative." Anyway, they've offered me some free passes to the film festival this weekend. Find out more about the festival here: http://www.ifct.org/jax.html. I am very excited about this. For one thing, I get to attend the festival for free, which I imagine will be a really great time. But what's more, this is a really great bit of recognition for theCorporal! Our hard work is paying off - I am so proud of all the contributors, and I hope you are proud of yourselves! In other news, please check out the JAX page for an updated calendar of events. And as ever, please email me info on events in the city as you become aware of them! Also - I have purchased a half-page advertisement for theCorporal in a production of student plays at UNF, which takes place this weekend. You can view the ad here, if you wish. You'll notice on the program ad that I've created a new graphic. I like the old grenade graphic (see it here - it used to be the favicon, too), but I thought it was too abstract. A lot of people couldn't tell it was a grenade. So anyway, I made a new one. And it's the new favicon as well. I also want to share a little tidbit from the site stats. theCorporal website has now had visitors from at least 5 different countries (not counting hits from IP addresses of unknown origin), including Germany, Brazil, Britain, Australia, and of course the US. Word up. Have I told you lately that I love you? -dominique-a-nique-a-nique ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- November 26, 2007 Greetings and salutations to all my fine feathered friends. It's update time. I'm sure you all know by now that theCorporal has an ad up on Google. Well here's the new hotness, kiddoes. I increased the ad budget, and now people are actually clicking on it. Yay! So- let's give them something good to look at by moving forward with issue2! In other news... for a brief period of time I was hosting my personal blog here on theCorporal website. However, I always intended this to be a short-term solution because I want everyone to feel equal ownership over this space. theCorporal belongs to all of us! To that end, my blog has moved to my new domain - www.thisisforfighting.com. Check it out sometime. I did have this thought, though... I wonder if the contributors might like to have their own pages on theCorporal website. What do you guys think? You could basically do whatever you want with it. It would just be your own space. I could even hook you up with a blog there, if you wanted. Takers? Anybody? remember: friends don't let friends fuck fascists. -dddoommoommiiinninniiqqqiiqqquuueeeeuueee ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- November 19, 2007 Hey there Hi there Ho there. I'm mostly just doing this update because I haven't done one in a while. There isn't actually a lot to say. That's okay. I'll just be brief. As I mentioned previously, we have an ad up on google. The good news is the ad has shown almost a thousand times. The bad news is, nobody has clicked on it. The good news is, it doesn't cost money unless someone clicks on it. The thing is, I have the ad budget set rather low. I'm going to try increasing it and see how that works. Just a reminder for anyone not keeping up, the deadline for issue2 is December 15. That is now less than a month away. Oh lordy, I need to start writing. A follow-up on my previous suggestion to download Firefox. If you don't like Firefox, or if you just want to be more cool and underground in your web-browsing choices, you might also try Opera. That's a good'un. Have a happy Thanksgiving, y'all. Kill yerself some native peoples some place and then celebrate with a delicious feast. I know I will. -domduhdomdomdom ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- November 8, 2007 A few notes for the day... 1. The submission deadline for issue number 2 has been posted! Check out the submissions page for more details. 2. Regarding the favicon... I notice that Internet Explorer only ever shows its own favicon... That is so lame! So, if you use Internet Explorer, I beg you to quit feeding the evil Microsoft machine and download a better browser. I might suggest Firefox, partially because I know the favicon works there. Also, tabs rule. 3. Unfortunately if you are reading this, then this note probably doesn't apply to you, but I'm going to say it anyway. If you are coming to the website and notice that the homepage doesn't ever seem to change, try clearing your cache. Get summmm. -dom ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- November 7, 2007 theCorporal is movin' on up, people. I have done the following, in an attempt to spread the word: 1. theCorporal is now the proud new owner of a Google ad! The ad will show up when certain keywords are searched for on google. If you happen to come across the ad, rejoice, but don't click it cuz that costs me money - haha. 2. I started a facebook group in the hopes that news of theCorporal will spread through peoples' friend lists and such. So if you have facebook, join this group - friends of theCorporal! 3. I also put up an ad on the facebook marketplace to get word to those in the Jacksonville and UNF networks. If you are a member of a different network and want to help out, I welcome you to do the same. 4. Finally, I have printed some small paper fliers. I haven't done anything with them yet, but if you want to help out, come see me and get some of these to hand around. Alright. If any of you have any other ideas for ways to increase traffic to the website, do tell. In other news, we have been getting a good number of visitors to the site! And, I am continuing to receive vast quantities of complimentary notes on everyone's work. Kick ass. Oh, last bit of news, if you take a look in your nav bar, to the left of the address you should see the new favicon. As ever, I adore you all. -dom ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- November 5, 2007 2:21 PM I have made some changes to the site- hoorah. Item 1: The Submissions page has been updated to reveal the topic for theCorporal issue number 2. Start thinking about what you might want to submit. Item 2: The Jacksonville page has been updated with new events for November. Please check it out, and most importantly, please send me information about events as you become aware of them. Item 3: The website is officially complete now, with the addition of the Links page. Much rejoicing. Item 4: I re-organized the home page a bit, in case you hadn't noticed.... I'm going to start posting regular updates here, so be sure to visit often! Also, a note to the contributors to issue number 1: I have received so many compliments on all of your work. Truly, each and every one of you has received specific praise for at least one of your pieces, from strangers and friends alike. Thanks again for all your effort- you really all did a terrific job. That is all! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- October 31, 2007 9:24 PM I have just completed the first issue of theCorporal. Check it out here. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
